Custom border
The body is calculated after subtracting the border. The chart uses your measured stitch for both.
Pattern repeat & edge stitches
Your measured swatch
Measure the fabric you made with your yarn, hook and stitch. Choose the area you actually measured, then count the stitches and rows.
Save for next time · optional yarn use
The yarn amount must cover this many stitches. If you weighed the full swatch but measured gauge only in the middle, use the full stitch count here. Weight and length cannot be interchanged.
Plan blanket dimensions before counting stitches
Choose a starting size from the crochet blanket size chart below, or enter a custom width and height. These are adjustable project presets, not universal bed or age-based size standards. Measure the space or person the blanket is for before committing to a size.
Add your measured crochet gauge to convert the target dimensions into stitches and rows. A selected border is included within the finished outer size: the calculator subtracts both edges, calculates the body and then adds border stitches and rows back in.
How to calculate crochet blanket size
- Choose Mini, Small, Medium or Large, or edit the target width and height in cm or inches.
- Choose no border, a 2 or 5 cm border, or a custom width. Apply a saved swatch or measure your project yarn and stitch.
- Check body counts, border counts and the adjusted finished size. Account for any stitch repeat, then create the chart if it is within 300 × 300.
Blanket planning features
- Four visible starting dimensions with centimeter and inch units and directly editable custom sizes.
- Border included in the chosen outer measurements, with separate body and border counts.
- Repeat multiples and edge stitches, whole-count rounding and the difference from your requested dimensions.
- Your chosen target remains visible before you supply a swatch; stitch counts appear only after a valid gauge is available.
Crochet blanket size chart: starting dimensions
Adjust these project presets for your needs. They are not standard bed sizes; inch values are rounded conversions.

| Large | 120 × 160 | 47.2 × 63.0 |
Crochet blanket size calculator questions
What are the sizes in this crochet blanket size chart?
The starting choices are Mini 40 × 40 cm, Small 60 × 80 cm, Medium 100 × 120 cm and Large 120 × 160 cm. They are Ovopixel project presets, not standardized baby, throw or bed sizes. Change either dimension to suit how your blanket will be used.
How do I calculate the number of stitches for a crochet blanket?
Enter the target blanket width and height and add a swatch made with your project yarn, hook and stitch. The calculator converts those measurements to stitch and row counts. If the pattern has a repeat multiple or extra edge stitches, enter those too and review the adjusted dimensions.
Is the border included in the finished blanket size?
Yes. A 2 cm border means 2 cm at each edge within the target outer dimensions. The body is calculated after subtracting both edges, then border counts are added using the same measured gauge. If the border uses a different stitch or gauge, plan and measure it separately.
Can I calculate blanket dimensions in inches?
Yes. Switch between centimeters and inches and edit the target dimensions in that unit. The starting-size table also shows approximate inch conversions. Crochet fabric can change after washing or blocking, so the result is an estimate based on your swatch.
Does the blanket calculator tell me my starting chain count?
It reports working stitches across and rows high. It does not add a turning chain or infer the foundation instructions for every stitch pattern. Follow your crochet pattern for starting chains, turning and how the edge or border is constructed.
Can I make a chart for a very large blanket?
You can calculate larger dimensions, but the shared editor accepts at most 300 stitches across and 300 rows. If the result exceeds that limit, the page keeps the calculation visible and blocks chart creation. Adjust the size or plan separate pieces with their own construction instructions.
