Count is fabric threads per inch. Aida usually uses over 1; 28-count over 2 has the same stitch size as 14-count over 1.

A cross stitch chart maker for your own pictures

Turn a photo, drawing or pixel image into a rectangular full-cross-stitch chart. Choose a DMC thread budget, preserve transparent squares and check the finished size before buying fabric.

The editor lets you correct individual stitches, replace thread colors and preview isolated-stitch cleanup. Small highlights can be intentional: protect them and compare the result before applying changes.

How to make a cross stitch pattern

  1. Upload a PNG, JPEG or WebP, choose a crop and set the chart width. Transparent areas remain unstitched.
  2. Choose a color limit or enter your own DMC numbers. Compare the preview, stitch count and finished size.
  3. Open Edit pattern to repair details, protect cells or change threads. Set fabric count and extra fabric in Fabric.
  4. Open Print to preview and download an A4 or Letter PDF, or keep the editable project file to return later.

What the pattern includes

  • Up to 300 × 300 chart squares and 32 DMC colors, with blank squares excluded from thread counts.
  • Stable symbols, per-color stitch counts and a fabric-size calculation using count and over 1 or 2.
  • Color and black-and-white symbol PDFs with an overview, thread key, coordinates and numbered detail pages.
  • Local drafts, free PNG and editable project downloads, plus optional private account saving.

Cross stitch pattern maker questions

Is this cross stitch pattern maker free?

Yes. Create, edit and download PDF, PNG and editable project files without an account. Sign in only when you want private cloud saving.

Can I convert a photo to a cross stitch pattern?

Yes. Upload the photo, crop around a clear subject and choose chart width and DMC colors. Review small details and edit the result before starting. A small chart cannot preserve every feature of a complex photo.

Can I make a pattern using only thread I already own?

Yes. Select Only use my DMC colors and enter the color numbers. The generated pattern will use only those candidates and stay within your chosen color limit.

What happens to a transparent background?

Transparent squares remain unstitched. Opaque white is separate and can use white thread. The fabric preview color does not add a thread color or stitches.

How do I know the finished size?

Enter fabric count and whether each cross stitch goes over one or two fabric threads. The tool shows chart area, stitched motif area and cut-fabric size with your extra margin.

Does the PDF support Pattern Keeper?

The current PDF is designed for paper printing. Pattern Keeper import has not been verified. Keep the editable project file as your independent backup.
